If we allow Democrats and Republicans to conduct business as usual, America's national debt will grow until America fails. We cannot allow this to happen. This plank was deduced from a breakthrough in science. Like using the correct equation when doing math, applying a new understanding of human nature will resolve all of America's social problems. Sending Patriots to Congress will insure politics, big business, political correctness and special interests do not come before America.
We will remedy America's social problems by applying the correct psychology.…
A Technological Utopia
Technologically speaking, we live in a Utopian society, and we can be proud of our many and varied accomplishments.
With small hand-held devices, we can find the answer to any question and chat with people around the world. Video games and movies are so realistic, they cause us to forget we are watching a virtual world. We can earn a college degree and acquire advanced knowledge without leaving our home. Automobiles are safe and reliable, roadways are durable and efficient allowing high-speed travel just about everywhere, and airplanes carry us to faraway lands in a matter of hours.
Electronic devices of all kinds make life so convenient, we have more free time than any previous generation. With restaurants on every corner, advanced medicines to cure our ills, and a plethora of music, videos and other forms of entertainment at our fingertips, even the poorest among us enjoy a lifestyle that would make kings and queens throughout history envious.
Yet Social Problems Keep Getting Worse
In contrast, socially speaking, just the opposite is true. Despite 80 years of effort and trillions of dollars spent on public programs to help citizens less fortunate, every social problem has become broader and deeper.
Congress has been fighting the war on poverty for decades, yet today over 50% of citizens are receiving public assistance in the form of food, shelter and medical care. The inner cities are so broken and dangerous, they are impassible even during the day. America's prison population is the highest per capita in the world. Our courts are so backlogged and overburdened, even repeat offenders are being released early.
Our youth are falling further behind academically, single parent households have become the norm, causing most children to be raised without a father. Compounding the problem, public schools have been promoting anti-Americanism for decades. The net result is there are over a million professional gang members in America, with many more teens joining ever year.
Note: We are setting ourselves up for disaster. Gangs are parasitic by nature as members are career criminals. They are predators who regard law-abiding citizens as prey. If the financial system collapses, they will pose an enormous danger to society.
America is becoming more and more divided. Illegal immigration is still out of control, causing America to become bilingual in just 20 years. Non-citizens are voting, illegal residents come to America to receive free services, and taxpayers are spending a trillion dollars a year just to feed citizens.
Note: Our dire financial situation (a national debt in excess of 18 trillion dollars) is a consequence of unresolved social problems. If we fix our social problems, Congress will be able to balance the budget.
How could we have accomplished so much technologically and yet fail so completely in resolving our social problems? Understanding why we have accomplished so much technologically while simultaneously failing to resolve any of our social problems is revealing.
It's All About Equations
The reason why technology in every form works so well is engineers have been applying correct equations. Although this statement seems obvious, it is profound.
Note: If engineers used the wrong equations, nothing would work.
Something is Fundamentally Wrong
The problem and solution becomes glaring when we realize every social problem in America has gotten worse. The fact Congress has failed to resolve even one social problem should send up a red flag.
An Analogy
Imagine being a math teacher and giving a test to your students. Let's assume your students are bright and prepared. The test requires they apply the same equation to each problem on the test. Imagine writing that equation on the blackboard and asking them to apply it.
Regardless of the difficulty of the test, you should expect some students to get some questions correct. What would you think if every student got a “0” on the test?
There is only one likely answer. The equation you gave them was wrong!
Legislators and administrators have failed to resolve any of America's social problems. In fact, every social problem has gotten worse despite their efforts to resolve them. They must be doing something fundamentally wrong. The fact every social problem is broader and deeper than ever before means they must be applying the wrong equation.
This conclusion is so important it is worth repeating and set off as a marque.
Government has been applying the wrong equation
when attempting to resolve social problems.
This realization leads to the following questions: What equation has government been applying to social problems? What equation should government be applying?
Equations and Human Nature
Because we are dealing with human beings, the equation to be applied will not be numbers. The equation will be a theory of human nature. In specific, the wrong theory will inspire citizens to make decisions that cause social problems to fester and grow. The correct theory will encourage human beings to make smart decisions and choose empowering behavior.
Representing a Theory of Human Nature as an Equation
Government creates public programs to resolve a social problems. We can represent the relationship between a social problem and a public program as follows:
Social Problem + Public Program ➙ Resolution (?)
We construct public programs in accordance with some theory of human nature. The theory of human nature we apply shapes the public program and its application.
Note: For example, how do we get more citizens to become self-reliant? Shall we punish failure or reward success? Should we pat the industrious on the back or kick the lazy in the butt? And so on.
Because the theory of human nature selected shapes the public program and its application, we can represent the theory of human nature applied in an equation.
Social Problem + Theory of Human Nature ➙ Resolution (?)
There are 2 Possible Theories of Human Nature
The division in America and the battle in Congress is over which of two possible theories of human nature is correct.
Question: How can there be only two possible theories of human nature when dozens of theories exist?
Answer: Anything can be divided so we are faced with two possible choices if one choice is specific. To illustrate, the millions of colors that make up the color spectrum can be divided into two groups: the color “red and “every other color.” Similarly, a deck of cards can be divided into two groups: "the four of clubs" and "some other card," and so on.
The Opposing Theories of Human Nature
One theory of human nature is specific (like the color “red” is to the color spectrum and the four of clubs is to a deck of cards). The alternative is every other possible theory of human nature.
Note: We can group all the other theories of human nature together because they share a common characteristic (as we will demonstrate shortly).
The two theories of human nature differ regarding the motivation behind human decisions and behavior. They have different explanations for why human beings think and behave the way they do.
For purposes of demonstration and understanding, imagine the two theories of human nature are each printed in a book, and we are holding one book in each hand.
Note: The following are summary explanations. A detailed treatment can be found in The Essence of Man and The Psychology and Counseling Scam. For details, follow the “About” link on the horizontal menu and then the “Learn” link on the vertical menu.
The Theory of Human Nature in our Right Hand
The theory of human nature held in our right hand is specific. It claims the rules of nature apply to human beings exactly as they do every other species on Earth. In short, human beings have not risen above the rules of nature. One set of natural laws applies to all species, including human beings.
The Theory of Human Nature in our Left Hand
The theory of human nature in our left hand (in all its many variations) claims the rules of nature do not apply to human beings as they do the animals. Although the theory of human nature described in the book in our left hand differ has many variations, they share the common characteristic that human beings operate different from the animals.
How Emotions Work Reveals which Theory is Correct
Thirty years of research and analysis have culminated in discovering how emotions work. This discovery confirms the rules of nature are in fact universal. Although our larger more sophisticated brain gives us unique capabilities that have resulted in amazing accomplishments, the motivation behind human decisions and behavior is identical to that of the animals in every instance and all of the time.
Note: Although hard to imagine, human beings operate exactly as do the animals. The incredulity of this concept is why it has never been entertained or applied when making public policy. Like applying the wrong equation when doing math, this is the reason why social problems have become worse despite spending trillions of dollars to resolve them.
The metaphors "spring" and "gravity" best describe the two opposing theories of human nature. As such, the two opposing theories of human nature are "Gravity Theory" and "Spring Theory," respectively.
…“Gravity Theory” reveals the true nature of human beings.…
Gravity Theory
According to Gravity Theory, human beings do not seek pleasure or avoid pain. Just like the animals, human beings are motivated only to resolve their discomfort.
Note: Gravity Theory is specific, similar to how the color red is a specific color (wave length) in the color spectrum, and how the ace of spades is a specific card in a deck of playing cards.
Spring Theory
The alternative theory of human nature is “Spring Theory.” According to Spring Theory, the motivation behind human decisions and behavior is complex and different from the animals. In addition to resolving their discomfort, human beings, in varying degrees and under special circumstances, may also seek pleasure and avoid pain.
The term Spring Theory represents all the various theories of human nature that claim human beings are motivated differently than the animals. The slightest difference from “exactly how the animals are motivated” qualifies a theory as being a variation of “Spring Theory.”
Note: Remember, we are only citing conclusions here. If you want a step-by-step breakdown of the analysis, see the books The Essence of Man and The Psychology and Counseling Scam in the “About/Learn” area of the website.
Understanding Gravity Theory
It is helpful to understand how the term Gravity Theory was selected to represent the theory that explains the motivation behind the decisions and behavior of all species. Consider the way the physical force of gravity affects water. We can describe gravity's effect on water with 4 general rules:
Water only moves when it's not at its lowest level.
Water does nothing more than move to its lowest level.
Water always chooses the lowest of two levels.
Water always takes the path of least resistance.
According to Gravity Theory:
G1 - Animals (and human beings) take action only when they become uncomfortable.
G2 - Animals (and human beings) do only what is necessary to resolve their discomfort.
G3 - Animals (and human beings) always choose the option that promises the least
amount of discomfort.
G4 - Animals (and human beings) always take the path of least resistance.
Note: G1 – G4 are the general laws and principles of Gravity Theory.
Understanding Spring Theory
Unlike all the other species on Earth, Spring Theory claims human beings are predisposed to perform admirably as if they are riding on an internal intrinsic spring. If not for social hindrances that weigh on us like heavy baggage (compressing the metaphorical intrinsic spring), human beings would "spring up" and perform admirably (our supposed natural predisposition).
The Question
Now that we have contrasted the two possible theories of human nature, we must answer the following question: “Does human nature push us upward like a spring, predisposing us to perform admirably (Spring Theory), or are human beings just like the animals in that we are predisposed to do only what is necessary to resolve our discomfort (Gravity Theory)?”
Analysis
For 80 years (since the early 1930s), Congress has applied Spring Theory when making public policy. Applying Spring Theory is analogous to applying the wrong equation when doing math. If we are ever to resolve our social problems, we need to apply Gravity Theory.
First, we need to settle the "Spring-Gravity" debate officially. To that end, we will insure Congress conducts a public hearing. We will assemble the greatest minds in the country from every relevant discipline. After exhaustive debate, the experts will weigh in and reveal the following truths:
Note: After almost thirty years of research and analysis, we know Gravity Theory is correct. Although some researchers will resist initially, the outcome is certain and the truth will eventually become accepted fact.
Conclusions
There are two possible theories of human nature. One is specific and universal. It pertains to all species all the time. The other theory is nebulous and comes in many variations.
The term "Spring-Gravity Theory" contrasts the two theories.
Spring Theory (in all of its variations) is wrong.
Gravity Theory is correct. There is one motivation behind all human decisions and behavior. That motivation is “resolve discomfort.”
The universally accepted theory of human nature, called Spring Theory, is wrong. It's application for 80 years is responsible for causing and exacerbating America's social problems. To fix America's social problems, we must apply the correct equation (Gravity Theory) when making public policy and fashioning social programs.
…Retooling public programs accordingly will repair the damage done from the universal application of “Spring Theory” (the wrong psychology) since the 1930s.
Politics will no longer influence legislation because science will lead the way. Citizens will tolerate changes in public policy from being continually reminded the personal sacrifices and inconveniences are a consequence of science – a new understanding human nature. Such changes in policy are necessary to resolve America's social and financial problems.
Gravity Theory and Humanology®
“Gravity Theory” is the name for a specific theory of human nature. It is in opposition to the catch-all term “Spring Theory.” Gravity Theory is central to Humanology®. “Humanology® is the science of understanding human nature.
Gravity Theory is specific as is the color red in the spectrum of colors. Spring Theory has many variations, and all of them are wrong.
Gravity Theory is comprised of four laws. These laws account for every decision and behavior of every human being past and present.
Gravity Theory can be applied to all aspects of life including relationships, health and longevity, personal and professional skills, and society and government.
Note: When applied, Gravity Theory reveals the secret to success in romance and fulfillment in marriage. It also reveals how companies can identify and obtain the most enviable defendable position in the marketplace. It reveals the best way to educate, manage and motivate, how to advertise with precision, how to resolve social problems, the optimum political system and elections process, and much more.
