There are two opposing views of human nature. One is popular, the other is correct. Coined Spring Theory and Gravity Theory, they are summarized here. Amazingly, this abbreviated explanation holds the key to solving America's social, financial, and political problems.
Most people believe that human nature works on us like a spring, continuously lifting us above the animals. According to Spring Theory, human beings are predisposed to rise up. If we perform poorly, it is because negative social conditions weigh on us, pushing us down. They compress "the spring," causing us to behave badly. It follows that citizens will automatically elevate and perform admirably if we remove the social hindrances. Although Spring Theory seems logical, is widely accepted, and rarely disputed, it is wrong. It turns out that "gravity" better describes human nature.
Because human beings are motivated only to resolve their discomfort, measures of comfort render public programs ineffective. People will not rise up if they are comfortable. Instead, they become complacent and dependent on the measures of comfort provided to them by society, worsening social conditions.
For public programs to be effective, Congress must embrace Gravity Theory. The programs they design must do nothing more than insure survival. Every comfort must be removed. Incorporating even minimum standards of comfort will discourage the process of self-elevation. Only if citizens are uncomfortable will they rise up and perform admirably.
To reverse America's downward slide, society must retool social programs to reflect Gravity Theory. Doing so will fix the cracks in our nation's foundation.
The book A More Perfect Union features a set of blueprints for making the necessary repairs. It demonstrates how we can surmount every challenge facing our nation just by incorporating Gravity Theory into our social policies and public programs. It reverse engineers America's recipe for success, provides an untainted version of American history, and contains everything we need to know about human nature, government theory, proper social engineering, and how to fix our political system.
Six hundred years ago, citizens debated the role of Earth in the universe. Was Earth at the center of everything or was it just another planet revolving around the sun? Although today we know the answer, the fact they did not is instructive. From their example, we see that what is intuitive and accepted may be wrong.
Today citizens are divided over a different question: Does human nature automatically lift us like a spring (predisposing us to reach for higher goals), or does human nature pull us downward like gravity (predisposing only to resolve our discomfort)? We want to believe our large human brain continuously lifts us above the animals. However, again, just because a belief is intuitive or accepted does not mean it is correct.
It turns out that we become capable of performing admirably only when we establish lofty goals. Only then might we use our large brain to counteract our innate animalistic urges, and only so that we may achieve those unfulfilled goals, resolving our discomfort. It takes (1) lofty goals and then (2) conscious effort to achieve them if we are to surmount our intrinsic nature and perform admirably.
America's original "recipe" was successful because it embraced Gravity Theory. The cracks in America's foundation today are the result of Congress incorporating Spring Theory into America's social policy for over 70 years. In doing so, America has left the highway to success for a road that ends at a cliff.
America has changed greatly over the last 50 years. Though we can be proud of our military might, infrastructure, advances in medicine, technological achievements, and bristling economy, every social aspect of our civilization is in decline. If we continue down the same road, what will America look like in another 50 years? How long will it be before we reach the cliff? If a comprehensive plan to save America from self-destruction were available, would we put it into action?
Though we now have the knowledge to save America, we are running out of time. Analysis reveals we have as little as ten years to take a hard turn from the cliff. If we wait to make the necessary changes, our momentum will be too great to correct our course, and America will surely fail. However, if we act now and do what is necessary to save our precious nation, America will survive and flourish, becoming the finest example of what humankind can achieve.
Not too long ago, people were blissfully ignorant thinking that Earth was the center of the universe. Over time, the notion that Earth revolved around the sun became universally accepted. The next great debate in America is going to be over the correct view of human nature.
The public is mostly unaware that Spring Theory is wrong and Gravity Theory is correct. To disseminate this information and facilitate its acceptance, we have defined the terms and carefully differentiated the two views of human nature. We need only to initiate a national discussion to change the way citizens view the general nature of human beings. Those in the media will have to make the decision to lead the way or play it safe and ride in after the battle is won.
The media can do its part and take an active role just by asking the right questions. Today, candidates spend hundreds of millions of dollars running around the country flipping burgers, serving soup, kissing babies, and shaking the hands of strangers just to win a few votes. They are asked the same senseless questions repeatedly as the media searches for something upon which to justify their support. Important information has been systematically overlooked because the media is not yet aware of Spring-Gravity Theory.
The following questions will differentiate candidates for office. These questions will identify those candidates who will make America stronger from those who continue America's course toward the cliff.
Do you ascribe to Spring Theory or Gravity Theory?
Will you apply Gravity Theory aggressively when making public policy and designing social programs?
Will you appease special interest groups in an effort to win votes, or will you only do what is good for America even if doing so abbreviates your political career?
Regardless of the political consequences, Patriots serve only one special interest — the health and longevity of America.
Do you believe America is in trouble and that everyone henceforth needs to make smart decisions starting right now.
Is America a democracy or a republic, and what is the difference?
In a republic, representatives represent their district, not the citizen majority. In a republic, once elections are over, the citizen majority has no more power than the lone individual. (See the links "Dispel the Democracy Myth" in this section and "Is America a Democracy or a Republic?" in the "Learn" section of this website.)
Pirates are individualists, and only self-serving. Patriots are individualists as well, but we make decisions that are also good for America.
The "Bidirectional System" will eliminate the excessive money, noise, and vitriol from politics. (See the first Plank of the Patriot Party Platform located by following the "Platform" link on the horizontal menu.)
Getting the correct answers to these questions will move America away from the cliff. If enough politicians (including every Patriot) work together in the right direction, we can put America back on the road to health and longevity within just a few years. The alternative is unthinkable.
