Political Turmoil
If there is any part of the American experiment that has not worked, it is our closed two-party political system. Both parties have had their turn at the wheel, yet neither has been able to solve any of our social, financial, or political problems. Consider the evidence:
They haven't stopped illegal immigrants from flooding our country.
They haven't corrected our nation's poor academic performance.
They haven't resurrected marriage and the two-parent family.
They haven't eradicated the armed gangs from our inner cities.
They haven't discouraged the use of drugs by citizens.
They haven't decreased crime or reduced the prison population.
They haven't balanced the budget.
They haven't begun to pay down the debt.
They haven't taken the money, the noise, and the vitriol out of the political process.
Instead, under their watch...
Our streets are more dangerous.
Violent offenders are set free to terrorize, maim, and kill again.
We've lost our inner cities to gangsters with automatic weapons.
Single-parent households have become the norm.
Our children are troubled from being raised without a father in their home.
America has fallen behind the industrialized world academically.
There is still tension between the races and various ethnicities.
Parts of America are becoming separated culturally.
America is becoming bilingual.
Drug use is up.
Responsible behavior is down.
More citizens are dependent on government.
Most citizens are more dependent on government.
We are running a deficit in the 100s of billions of dollars every year.
The national debt is growing steadily every year.
The political process is more costly and corrosive every election cycle.
The major parties have put our nation into debt to the tune of over 9 trillion dollars, and it is increasing an additional trillion dollars every three years. Moreover, the major political parties have done everything possible to make citizens dependent on government. Today, 60% of Americans are dependent on government for some form of public support.
Not learning from history, the two major parties continue to undermine our nation by insuring the dependency class grows. Both Republicans and Democrats are sending our children to school with their hand out looking for free breakfast and then lunch, as if it is government's job to feed them.
Now they are claiming that citizens deserve FREE health care, even if they indulge in cigarettes, alcohol, fast food, trips to the casino, concert tickets, cable television with the premium channels, the latest cell phones with extra minutes, and high-end electronics. Citizens are beginning to believe that even if they drive new cars and buy a house beyond their means, government should be obligated to pay for their health care.
Turning health care over to government is the coup de grâce for socialism. Comprising 15% of America's economy, government control of health care would do more than discourage hard work, extra effort, and ambition. It would cripple our economic engine, degrading America's recipe for success forever.
The major parties have turned the elections process into a circus, requiring the raising and spending of hundreds of millions of dollars every election cycle. Yet, despite the money, noise, vitriol, endless debates, buttons, and confetti, we are always disappointed with the performance of those elected.
We would be just as satisfied if we put on blindfolds and threw darts at a board because (1) they do not understand human nature (that Gravity Theory is correct) and (2) they have to cater to many special interests to fund their respective political careers.
Things we need to change about politics in America:
Eliminate the need for big money in politics.
Eliminate the noise and personal attacks from politics.
Eliminate the need for extensive campaigning.
Change the nature of politics from a career to public service.
Expand the arena of ideas by allowing minor ("third") parties to compete.
Enable citizens to vote for the party of their choice without "wasting their vote."
The Patriot Party has developed a complete plan to change politics in America as we know it. The plan can be implemented quickly and it will resolve every one of the problems with our existing system.
